Here are a few tips to prevent back injuries.

1. Lift smaller loads of snow and make sure you bend your knees.

2. Keep your back as straight as possible, avoid excessive twisting and lift with your legs not your back.

3. Use a shovel with a shaft to help keep your back straight while lifting.

4. Take a step toward the direction you are throwing the snow.

5. Take frequent breaks when shoveling.
